January 2025 Jam Sessions & Workshops

We’re holding a number of complementary jam sessions these school holidays, to help students become better guitarists – and to have fun.

These events are open for all UGA students and will be held at our Smeaton Grange studio, but may also recorded for marketing and internal training purposes.

Please note that there are limited tickets to each event, so we recommend booking yours asap.

• Improvising For Adults – Saturday January 18, 10am
  • Teacher: Andrew
  • Details: This workshop if for adult students only. We’ll be looking at some basic improvising techniques and concepts to help you get started. No improvising experience necessary!

• Fingerpicking For Adults – Saturday January 18, 11am
  • Teacher: Andrew
  • Details: This workshop if for adult students only. We’ll work on fingerpicking techniques to help you develop the skills needed for fingerpicking. No previous fingerpicking experience necessary.

• Intro To Music Notation – Monday January 20, 9:30am

  • Details: Ideal for all ages, this workshop will teach you the essential concepts of how to read music.

• Intro To Jazz Music – Monday January 20, 10:30am
  • Teacher: Daniel
  • Details: Ideal for all ages, this workshop is an introduction to jazz on the guitar. We’ll look at common chords, scales and other concepts used in jazz music.

• Advanced Rock Guitar Workshop – Thursday January 23, 9:30am

  • Details: Ideal for those who are already competent rock guitarists, here we will start working on some more challenging skills such as alternate picking, to help you learn some more difficult rock songs.

  • Details: Ideal for all ages and skill levels, together we will learn and practice a range of scales that every guitarist needs to know.

  • Details: Ideal for all ages, we will be helping you start your rock guitar journey on the right foot!

  • Details: Ideal for those who have already started bar chords, this jam session will focus on helping you improve at your bar chord playing.

  • Details: Jam on songs that you’ve been working on, to help you get ready for the year ahead. Ideal for anyone with less than six months playing experience.

  • Details: Ideal for anyone who knows several open chords, here we will be playing a range of songs that use lots of chords.

  • Details: Ideal for students with at least 12 months playing experience, we will be teaching songs and exercises to help develop good guitar playing technique.
